LET’S START SOMEWHERE!

Wow! It’s so hard to believe that we are in the month of September. School is well underway. Routines are being re-established. Sports are in full-swing. We’re all so busy. For those of you who don’t know me. I’m Britiany. Britiany Wines to be precise! My official role with the Boone County Community Chest is Board Secretary.

With my crazy mom-life as well as my other non-profit work at my full-time gig with Mental Health America here in Boone County, I can not get out there doing as much of the boots-on-the-ground work so many of the other great members of the Community Chest. But, it’s been weighing on me to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and start writing.

What you’re going to start seeing on our website are a variety of blogs, stories, etc. While I have no intentions on recreating Facebook (would not know how if I wanted to), I do want to add something special to our website and community. I want to give people a chance to hear some good advice. I want people to have someplace to go (at least with the written word) to laugh sometimes, or maybe cry. Maybe you feel like you’re alone. Maybe you don’t want to scroll through Facebook, but you want something to read while you poop. Who knows?!?! But my goal is for you to find it here…local…with people you know and trust.

I would also like to invite others to be creative and submit their expertise. Are you fantastic and baking? Shoot us your recipes! You have an idea on how to coupon? Let us get that info out for you!

The one area you will see a special emphasis on from me is our youth. People, we have a generation of wandering individuals out there. These are young people on the cusp of greatness and catastrophe at any given moment. One word can make or break them. I want what I write to our youth (or maybe the grown folks too) to REALLY feel like they have someone they can reach out to, or something to look forward to reading.

Who knows…maybe I’ll create a poetry section for kids to get their works out there. Whatever it is…it is going to be good. It is going to be relevant, and it is going to be now!

So for now, let me leave this here. If you have ideas on something you would like to know or have known, and you think we can help you get it there, fire your ideas to me at bwines@communitychest.us

BE GOOD HUMANS, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR, BE WHO YOU BE!!!

What does “Community” mean to you?

What does “Community” mean to you? This is a question I like to ask on the regular. Jolene Gibson is what it means right now. The out pouring from the Community has been great! Jolene is a spunky, stubborn, outgoing, impatient and beautiful one-year old little girl. She was welcomed into this world at 32 weeks. She has four older siblings and two amazing parents. Jolene has been diagnosed with Rhabdoid Cancer. In the last few weeks I have seen so many awesome acts of kindness , love and support for this family. A Go Fund Me organized by a family friend is up to $7,121!!!!! Love and Prayers for Jolene Go Fund Me. Other great things have happened too! The ladies I refer to as #TeamJolene are kicking tail!! They were able to get all new tires for Mom’s Van!!  Friendly City Games held a Magic The Gathering Event and Contributed $300 to the Go Fund ME! Friendly City Games Facebook Page .Even Jolene’s favorite show Beat Bugs got in on the Go Fund Me with $150!! Beat Bug’s Facebook Page. So many loving people stepping up! So many others have donated on the Go Fund Me as well!! Thank You All!!!

There are so many people to thank and I will In due time! Stay tuned for more!!

A quick Word.

Just wanted to take a few to share this new thing I am going to do. I will try as frequently as possible to share new ideas and thoughts that I may have as well as other updates and such that I feel you may want to know. Currently, I have added what I call Shout Out’s . This is basically free advertising for those who have helped or who are helping us. It’s not a whole lot but, whatever we can do to help those who have helped us!! The further along BCCC moves,  the more I find the need to be able to connect outside of social media. This is why I have added this Words From Todd section. This is where I will share things as well.  You will see some new things happening with BCCC.

Our Web Presence.

As we grow and add more administrative volunteers to our Facebook Group: Boone County Community Chest. I will be devoting more time to our Web Presence outside of Facebook. I will be looking for volunteers with experience in Word Press and Joomla. I am attempting to not only create a public resource but resources for other organizations as well.
